Sigma Delta Pi Best Practices
For the 8th consecutive year and to commemorate its 100th anniversary, Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, hosts student members to share their local chapters’ best practices through formal presentations. This session was originally accepted and scheduled for presentation at the AATSP’s 102nd Annual Conference in Puerto Rico in July 2020. Because of the conference’s postponement due to COVID-19, in June 2020 participants recorded their planned presentations as provided below.
Fátima González
A spring 2020 graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a double major in Spanish and Applied Communication, Fátima was also the treasurer of her chapter of Sigma Delta Pi. Her future plans include continuing to help Latino communities of the Midwest region.

Melanie McCormick
A recent graduate from Friends University with a B.S. in Accounting and a B.A. in Spanish, Melanie was also a member of her institution’s volleyball team, a mentor for the Latino Leaders program, a member of the Spanish Club and Business Professionals of America, and she was treasurer of her Sigma Delta Pi chapter. Melanie just began a full-time job with an accounting firm where she is often relied upon to assist with Spanish-speaking clients.

Linda Núñez
Currently a Ph.D. student at Florida State University, Linda’s research focus is Puerto Rican and Contemporary Latin American literature. She is also the president of her Sigma Delta Pi chapter, and she has 20 years of experience as a high school teacher of English and Spanish.
