Sigma Delta Pi chapter delegates (advisers, student officers and members), Executive Council Members and Honorary Presidents are cordially invited to join us for our 16th annual Informative Session AND our Inaugural Graduate Research Symposium (featuring presentations by recipients of Sigma Delta Pi’s Graduate Research Grants in 2017) at the 71st Kentucky Foreign Language Conference, April 19-21, 2018 at the University of Kentucky.

Sigma Delta Pi’s Board of Student Advisers (BSA): Call for Applications. Deadline Extended to Friday, April 20

Please distribute to your student chapter members.

 This spring, Sigma Delta Pi’s National Executive Committee will appoint five members of our Board of Student Advisers (BSA) to replace our current, impressively accomplished, inaugural BSA members whose terms end May 14, 2018.  Established in 2016, the BSA provides national leadership opportunities to our undergraduate and graduate student members of Sigma Delta Pi.  For related details, please review the BSA charter.

 Active student members of Sigma Delta Pi who are interested in becoming members of our Board of Student Advisers should submit  to the Executive Director via e-mail (delmastromp@cofc.edu) the following information by Friday, April 20, 2018:

  1. Statement of interest.
  2. CV (résumé).

The five new appointees will join the current members of the BSA (see https://sigmadeltapi.org/contact/board-of-student-advisers/) will join Madison B. Savard and Annette Zapata to work together on current projects and as outlined in the aforementioned charter.

Premio Mario Vargas Llosa 2018: MONDAY, May 1 Nomination Deadline

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: May 1, 2018

Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society,
and the AATSP, the American Association of Spanish and Portuguese,
are pleased to announce their 8th annual

Mario Vargas Llosa Award

to be granted yearly to one undergraduate Spanish major or minor who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in all upper-division courses completed and exemplary involvement in extra-curricular activities as related to Spanish.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Nominee must be a full-time undergraduate student;
  2. Nominee must have completed at least eight (8) upper-division courses (post intermediate level) total in Spanish language, literature and culture;
  3. Nominee must be a member of Sigma Delta Pi;
  4. Nominator must be a member of the AATSP;
  5. The completed “Nomination Form” (download here) and all specified supporting materials must be submitted via e-mail by May 1, 2018.  Incomplete nominations will be disqualified.

Selection of the 2018 award will be made by a committee comprising leaders from both Sigma Delta Pi and the AATSP with Sigma Delta Pi’s Executive Director serving as chair.

Nominees will be selected upon the basis of academic achievement in all upper-division Spanish courses completed and extra-curricular involvement as related to Spanish.

Sigma Delta Pi provides the 2018 Mario Vargas Llosa Award recipient with a plaque, the most recent issue of the Maria Moliner Diccionario de uso de español and one of Vargas Llosa’s novels; the AATSP will organize and host the award venue at their 2018 conference in Salamanca, Spain.  Sigma Delta Pi and the AATSP will provide a travel stipend to defer costs related to attending the conference. The awardee will be announced prior to the AATSP Conference.
