Each entry will be posted to our national Sigma Delta Pi Facebook page: www.facebook.com/sigmadeltapi. Pictures posted directly to this page will be disqualified; pictures must be e-mailed as specified above to sdpnational@gmail.com.
The winning picture will be featured during the entire month of December at Sigma Delta Pi’s FB page, and the winning chapter will receive an award plaque. Cakes will be judged on artistic merit, originality and compliance with submission rules noted above. The winning chapter will receive a $100 credit that may be applied to future orders placed for memberships and other materials offered directly by the national office.
During all of November and to commemorate Sigma Delta Pi’s National Charter Month, complimentary copies of T. Earle Hamilton’s 1995 Sigma Delta Pi: A Brief History, 1919-1994 (218 pp) and LaPrade and Del Mastro’s 2005 Recounting a Decade, 1995-2004 (37 pp) will be included the purchase of a signed copy of Del Mastro’s 2020 book Sigma Delta Pi: Rediscovering a Century: 1919-2019, available at Sigma Delta Pi’s national website: https://sigmadeltapi.org/sigma-delta-pi-history-book/.

at the 109th Conference of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP)

Student Members of active Sigma Delta Pi chapters are invited to submit a proposal for a 15-minute presentation on your chapter’s “best practices” that focus on Sigma Delta Pi activities at your local institution. We strongly encourage proposals from current student members/officers who are actively involved in initiating, organizing, executing, and/or participating in Sigma Delta Pi activities at their institutions. Members who have already graduated at the time of application are not eligible.
By Wednesday, October 14, 2026, please e-mail the following to delmastromp@cofc.edu:
1) your full name
2) name of your Sigma Delta Pi chapter and college/university
3) name of your chapter adviser
4) title of your proposed presentation
5) summary of your proposed presentation in Spanish or English (no longer than 150 words)
Final decisions will be communicated in November 2026.
Accepted student participants will receive a $600 travel stipend plus paid conference registration (early bird rate) courtesy of Sigma Delta Pi and complimentary student AATSP membership, courtesy of the AATSP. However, accepted participants are expected to secure travel-related funding for all remaining expenses through their college/university, either via the academic departments, the dean’s or provost’s office, the office of student activities, or other institutional sources. Colleges/universities often provide funding for students presenting at conferences. The chapter adviser can assist with exploring these funding options. Sigma Delta Pi is unable to provide monetary support beyond the $600 travel stipend and conference registration (early bird rate) per selected student.

Only colleges/universities with an active chapter of Sigma Delta Pi or SHLE are eligible for this award. Nominations must originate from the active chapter of Sigma Delta Pi or SHLE and on behalf of the department that houses the “Transformative Spanish Language Program” in question. The inaugural award will be presented during Sigma Delta Pi’s reception at the annual AATSP meeting in summer 2027 in Lisbon, Portugal.

Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, and the Academia Norteamericana de la Lengua Española are pleased to announce plans for their 3rd annual panel at the 109th AATSP conference in Lisbon, Portugal (June 22-25, 2027) to highlight innovative higher education (2-year and 4-year colleges/universities) programs in the U.S. that have managed to bolster their class enrollment and better prepare students for employment after graduation. Special consideration will be given to Spanish language programs that are responding to the national enrollment cliff, declining language program enrollments, academic program ROI (“return on investment”), and other regional and national trends.
Proposals must include the following:

Panelists of selected proposals must commit to present in person at the 109th AATSP annual conference, June 22-25, 2027, in Lisbon, Portugal. Each panelist will speak for 5-6 minutes followed by an open discussion with the audience and other panelists. Presentations are brief to encourage ample conversation/engagement.
Longer versions of the final presentations will be published in the 3rd edition of Transformative Spanish Language Programs: Preparing the Workforce for Tomorrow that will be updated yearly and made available exclusively to both Sigma Delta Pi and ANLE members.
Eligible proposers are also encouraged to self-nominate (a separate process) for the inaugural Transformative Spanish Language Program Award that will be presented at the same AATSP conference in 2027. Please submit the online nomination form by October 1. Details at https://sigmadeltapi.org/
