This fall, Sigma Delta Pi’s National Executive Committee plans to appoint additional members of our Board of Student Advisers (BSA). Established in 2016, the BSA provides national leadership opportunities to our undergraduate and graduate student members of Sigma Delta Pi. For details, please review the BSA charter.
Active student members of Sigma Delta Pi who are interested in becoming members of our Board of Student Advisers should submit to sdpnational@gmail.com the following information by Friday, October 28, 2022:
The Premio Albatros includes a $1,500 subvention that may be granted yearly for one Sigma Delta Pi chapter adviser whose manuscript is accepted and published by Albatros Ediciones.
Eligibility requirements:
· a Sigma Delta Pi chapter adviser who is a faculty member of Spanish and who has conducted at least one initiation ceremony of new Sigma Delta Pi members within the past two years from the submission of their manuscript proposal to Albatros Ediciones
· the candidate must be the current chapter adviser at their institution when they submit their proposal for consideration to Albatros Ediciones
· the candidate’s manuscript must be accepted for publication by Albatros Ediciones (at the time) while they are still the active Sigma Delta Pi chapter adviser at their institution
· the candidate whose manuscript is accepted for publication by Albatros Ediciones agrees to publish their work with Albatros Ediciones AND submits their final work to Albatros Ediciones as contractually agreed
· submitted manuscripts should be complete and range between 300-350 pages, or approximately 125,000 words.
Not eligible:
· past chapter advisers
· chapter members who are NOT active chapter advisers
· members of Sigma Delta Pi’s national Executive Council
· chapter advisers whose work will be published by any publisher besides Albatros Ediciones
Additional program details and conditions:
· The recipient of the Premio Albatros will be selected by Sigma Delta Pi and Albatros Ediciones among all qualified candidates whose proposals have been accepted for publication by Albatros Ediciones.
· The $1500 subvention (which represents 50% of the total subvention required for publication after acceptance) would be issued directly to Albatros Ediciones after confirmation of receipt of the final manuscript for publication.
· Only manuscripts published with Albatros Ediciones are eligible.
· The recipient of the Premio Albatros will receive an award plaque with a press release issued to their home institution.
· The awardee must also agree to make a presentation on their manuscript in an international, virtual event co-organized by Sigma Delta Pi and Albatros Ediciones.
· Only one Premio Albatros per academic year (July 1-June 30) may be granted.

Call for Student Papers for Sigma Delta Pi’s 11th Annual “Best Practices” Session at the 105th Conference of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese Salamanca, Spain June 26-29, 2023
Student Members of active Sigma Delta Pi chapters are invited to submit a proposal for a 15-minute presentation on your chapter’s “best practices” that focuses on Sigma Delta Pi activities at your local institution. We strongly encourage proposals from current student members who are actively involved in initiating, organizing, executing and/or participating in Sigma Delta Pi activities at their institutions. Members who have already graduated at the time of application may not apply.
1) your full name 2) name of your Sigma Delta Pi chapter and college/university 3) name of your chapter adviser 4) title of your proposed presentation 5) summary of your proposed presentation (no longer than 150 words)
3-4 papers will be selected from the submissions received, and the student presenters will be notified in early December 2019.
A student whose paper is selected for presentation will receive a $600 travel stipend plus paid conference registration courtesy of Sigma Delta Pi and complimentary student membership in AATSP courtesy of the AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese). However, the same student is expected to secure travel-related funding for all remaining expenses through their college/university, either via the academic departments, the dean’s or provost’s office, the office of student activities, or other institutional sources. Colleges/universities often provide funding for students presenting at conferences. Your chapter adviser can assist you with exploring these funding options. Sigma Delta Pi is unable to provide monetary support beyond the $600 travel stipend and conference registration per selected student.

To commemorate the anniversary of the Society’s first formal induction ceremony on Saturday, May 1, 1920 at founding member Miriam Burt’s home on 1629 Walnut Street in Berkeley, CA, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society held its 3rd annual “Día de Sigma Delta Pi” back on May 1, 2022 at 5:00pm EDST with a remote inauguration via Zoom of El Museo Virtual.

At any time, chapters may submit pictures of their signed charters (the document/canvas your chapter was issued when founded) for inclusion in the Museo Virtual.
If your chapter has a charter that was issued prior to the year 2000 that you would like to contribute to the gallery, please upload a high-resolution photo (gif or jpg file) in the following shared folder:
Additionally we welcome ALL YEAR LONG other contributions for our “Artifacts Gallery” that may have been passed down to our advisers. If you have copies of old certificates, paper order forms or correspondence, please upload your photos for consideration at

Chapters are asked to UPLOAD IN THE AFOREMENTIONED SHARED FOLDER Sigma Delta Pi historical content for possible inclusion in the Museo Virtual (electronic submissions only):
· Staged Photos (may include works of Sigma Delta Pi-related art: drawings, paintings, etc.). All photos must include a brief caption (50 words or less) with chapter name and description; for photos of events (initiation ceremonies will not be considered): also include date(s). Photos of poor quality or inadequate resolution cannot be considered. · Short Videos · Poems · Music (audio files) · Other (this list is not exhaustive as we expect creative chapters may have unique, relevant ideas for exhibits)
Large files should NOT be sent as attachments, but rather as links to the file(s) in cloud storage (e.g.: GoogleDrive, OneDrive, Dropbox). All submissions should be sent either by an official chapter adviser or student officers, and will be reviewed by Sigma Delta Pi’s Executive Committee for possible inclusion in the Museo Virtual. Outstanding submissions that are approved for inclusion in the museum will be eligible for the Frida Kahlo Award, to be presented during National Charter Month in November 2022.
The winning chapter of the 2022 Frida Kahlo Award will be announced during a special event to commemorate Sigma Delta Pi’s 103rd birthday on November 14. More details forthcoming, but mark your calendars!
