Sigma Delta Pi Mourns and Remembers: Mr. Thomas H. Foard

Thomas H. Foard
February 13, 1932-August 30, 2020

Sigma Delta Pi mourns the loss of Mr. Thomas H. Foard who passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at the age of 88.

“Tom” was Sigma Delta Pi’s diligent and trustworthy financial adviser since 2003, when he was first introduced to the Society’s Executive Committee by the late President Emeritus Richard Chandler in Lafayette, Louisiana that summer.  Tom’s exemplary work and attentiveness helped Sigma Delta Pi get through the 2008 Great Recession relatively unscathed, while he consistently ensured the Society’s endowment avoided unnecessary risks and enjoyed steady growth for nearly 17 years.  He loved to work and he loved his clients, and during our frequent phone calls during his counsel on Sigma Delta Pi’s finances, he would often remark: “why would I retire, Mark? To stay at home and get in my wife’s way?” But he was never in her way: he was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who adored his extensive family, and they rightfully adored him back.

Tom would call me yearly on my birthday to wish me well, he would touch base when hurricanes approached the South Carolina coast out of concern for my and my family’s wellbeing, and he would telephone almost monthly with recommendations on how to adjust the Society’s portfolio for optimal gains; and his advice was never off the mark.

Sigma Delta Pi remembers a great friend and industrious counselor, and we all keep his family members in our thoughts during their time of mourning.
Thank you, Tom, for helping make Sigma Delta Pi the flourishing organization that it is today.
