Sigma Delta Pi’s Centennial Celebration: Concluding 100 Years & Beginning Another Century. Recording of Virtual Awards Reception.

Last night, Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at 7:00pm Eastern Time, Sigma Delta Pi held its first-ever, national Virtual Awards Reception to recognize the accomplishments of select chapters and members for the 2019-20 academic year.  We were honored with the virtual presence of many distinguished guests to include the AATSP’s Executive Director Sheri Spaine-Long who gave the opening toast, Past AATSP Executive Director and Sigma Delta Pi Honorary President Emily Spinelli, Past AATSP President Martha Vásquez, current AATSP President Ada Ortuzar-Young, Sigma Delta Pi’s National President Lucy F. Lee, President Emeritus Germán D. Carrillo, Regional Vice-Presidents, Honorary President Domnita Dumitrescu, several past national awardees, chapter faculty advisers and student chapter officers.

This event marked the conclusion of a memorable celebration of our Society’s centennial (1919-2019), and we look forward to the continued progress of our beloved organization through the support and exemplary work of all of you, our chapters, members and faculty advisers of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society.

Sigma Delta Pi: Centennial Celebration and Replica Membership Pins for Spring 2020 Initiates

In Spring 2020, Sigma Delta Pi celebrates the centennial
of its first formal induction of new members that took place on May 1, 1920 at 1629 Walnut Street in Berkeley, CA under the leadership of undergraduate student Ruth Helen Barnes, the Society’s founder and first president.

To commemorate its inaugural initiation ceremony,
Sigma Delta Pi will issue a replica of Ruth Barnes’ original membership pin
to every new member inducted during the spring of 2020:

Sigma Delta Pi’s centennial celebration continues through July 2020,
and we encourage our chapters to plan local activities that are appropriate for this special period in our history.

November 2019 is Sigma Delta Pi’s 100th B-day and
National Sigma Delta Pi Charter Month!

 

The focal event for National Charter Month is our 7th annual Facebook Birthday Cake Picture Competition to celebrate Sigma Delta Pi’s 100th birthday.  To enter:

1) Through November 30, 2019, chapters are invited to e-mail a picture of their unique Sigma Delta Pi b-day cakes to sdpnational@gmail.com:

2) The pictured cake must include a reference, etched in icing on the cake, to Sigma Delta Pi’s 100th b-day.

3) It must be an actual cake that displays the Sigma Delta Pi logo.

4) Student members must contribute to the design of the cake.

5) For the accompanying “description,” include in the text of the e-mail the name of the originating chapter and institution.  For example: “Eta Upsilon, Illinois State University.”

We will post each entry to our national Sigma Delta Pi Facebook page: www.facebook.com/sigmadeltapiChapters must NOT post their pictures directly to this page or they will be disqualified; pictures must be e-mailed as specified above to sdpnational@gmail.com.

The winning picture will be featured during the entire month of December at Sigma Delta Pi’s FB page, and the winning chapter will receive an award certificate.  Cakes will be judged on artistic merit, originality and compliance with submission rules noted above.  The winning chapter will receive a $100 credit that may be applied to future orders placed for memberships and other materials offered directly by the national office.
